Potęga sztuki
The power of art

W kilka dni później bankier wraca do malarza i niemal na kolanach błaga go o sprzedanie „niepodobnego” portretu.

– Zapłacę każdą cenę, tylko sprzedaj go pan! – deklaruje.

A banker is looking at his portrait which he commissioned by the well-known painter. His face gets covered with a blush, the artist clearly hears the ominous grinding of his teeth… The customer is furious. Oh, it does not bode well for the pay!

„No! I will not pay the whole amount! The figure in the picture is not similar enough to me!”

Painter is silent for a moment. He was right. But then he comes up with an interesting idea: he knows how to outwit the banker. „Miser… I wonder what he is going to do now!” he smiles to himself.

„If I do not get for it as much as I demand, I might as well keep it for myself,” he says to the customer and politely but firmly turns him out of the studio.

A few days later, the banker returns to the painter and almost on his knees begs him to sell the „dissimilar” portrait.

„I will pay any price, you only sell it!” he declares.

What did the artist do?

Answer

The painter exhibited the painting in one of the local galleries with the caption „A miser.” After a week all the banker’s friends who managed to see the work in that time were laughing at him.
