To był bardzo przyjemny dzień dla Konrada i Moniki. Spacer po Rynku Głównym w Krakowie, wizyta w 3 różnych księgarniach… Teraz byli umówieni z przyjaciółmi, Calem i Erin – mieli spotkać się w kawiarni. Lubili to miejsce. Monika często żartowała, że trochę przypomina jej ono świat z „Przygód Alicji w Krainie Czarów” – głównie ze względu na miniaturowe ciasteczka dodawane gratis do wszystkich rodzajów kaw i herbat, które były w karcie.

– Co zamawiamy? – spytał Konrad, gdy już rozsiedli się przy stoliku. Usłyszawszy decyzję Moniki, zerknął na opis i zdjęcie wymienionego napoju w menu. – No, wygląda ciekawie. Jesteś pewna, że zdołasz wypić tak duży kubek, Kocie? Może lepiej zamów sobie filiżankę mleka, co? – zapytał z szerokim uśmiechem. Doskonale wiedział, że dziewczyna jest „herbatoholiczką”, jak ona sama to określała. Wybrana przez nią „herbata rozgrzewająca” podawana była w metalowym kubku mieszczącym na oko 3 normalnej wielkości filiżanki; w środku pływały plasterki imbiru oraz naszpikowane goździkami kawałki cytryn i pomarańczy. Oprócz tego miała ona zawierać miód.
– Pewnie, że tak. Znasz mnie przecież! Nie dość, że zdołam, to jeszcze zmieszczę te ciasteczka. Dobra kochani, na co macie ochotę? Pójdę złożyć zbiorcze zamówienie… – Monika z trudem dokończyła zdanie, krztusząc się ze śmiechu. Użyte przez chłopaka przezwisko było jej własnym pomysłem. Obsesja, którą miała na punkcie kotów, była jeszcze większa niż jej „uzależnienie” od herbaty.
Kilka minut później, kelnerka przyniosła zamówione przez naszych bohaterów napoje i ciasta. Monika skosztowała swojej herbaty i westchnęła cicho.
– No, miodu to ten napój z pewnością nie widział… – mruknęła. Jednak po chwili znalazła inny, znacznie gorszy powód do zmartwienia. Przywołała kelnerkę, która obsługiwała ich stolik. – W mojej herbacie pływa mucha! Proszę przynieść mi nową, proszę pani. – powiedziała gniewnie. Kobieta z przepraszającym uśmiechem zabrała kubek i po chwili wróciła.
– Proszę, oto nowa herbata dla pani.
Jednak jak tylko Monika spróbowała napoju, zrozumiała, że została oszukana: kobieta jedynie wyciągnęła pływającego w kubku owada, a nie zamieniła naczynia. Skąd nasza bohaterka mogła mieć taką pewność?
Jak zapewne pamiętacie, Monika zasmuciła się wyczuwalnym brakiem miodu w herbacie. A ponieważ bardzo lubiła słodką herbatę, mocno posłodziła zawartość kubka. Użyła 3 torebek brązowego cukru, z których każda odpowiadała objętością 1 łyżeczce. A smak miodu dość łatwo odróżnić od tego, jak smakuje biały lub brązowy cukier… szczególnie, jeśli użyło się tak dużej ilości tego drugiego!

It was a very pleasant day for Konrad and Monika. A walk around the Main Market Square in Kraków, a visit to three different bookstores… Now they had an appointment with their friends, Cal and Erin – they were to meet in a cafe. They liked this place. Monika often joked that it reminded her of the world from „Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” – mainly because of the miniature cookies added for free to all the sorts of tea and coffee that were in the menu.

„What do we order?” asked Konrad when they finally sat down at the table. After hearing Monika’s decision, he glanced at the description and photo of the mentioned drink on the menu. „Well, it looks interesting. Are you sure you can drink such big a mug, Cat? Maybe you’d better order a cup of milk for yourself, eh?” he asked with a wide smile. He knew perfectly well that the girl was a „tea-holic”, as she herself described it. The „warming tea” that she chose was served in a metal cup that held around 3 cups of normal size; inside were ginger slices and pieces of lemons and oranges bristling with carnations. In addition, it was supposed to contain honey.
„Sure. You know me, after all! And not only will I manage, but I’ll also fit in the cookies. Okay dears, what do you want? I’ll go and place a collective order…” Monika barely finished her sentence, choking with laughter. The nickname used by the boy was her own idea. Her obsession with cats was even bigger than her „addiction” to tea.
A few minutes later, the waitress brought the drinks and cakes ordered by our characters. Monika tasted her tea and sighed quietly.
„Well, this drink has certainly not seen honey…” she muttered. But after a while, she found a different, worse reason to be upset. She called for the waitress who had served their table. „There’s a fly floating in my tea! Please bring me a new one, madam,” she said angrily. The woman took the mug away with an apologetic smile and returned after a moment.
„Here you are, here’s a new tea for you, Ma’am.”
However, as soon as Monika tasted the drink, she understood that she had been deceived: the woman only pulled out an insect floating in the mug and did not exchange the dishes. How could our character he so sure about it?
As you probably remember, Monika was saddened by the perceptible lack of honey in her tea. And because she really liked sweet tea, she sweetened the contents of her mug very strongly. She used three bags of brown sugar, each of which corresponded to a volume of 1 teaspoon. And the taste of honey is quite easy to distinguish from the taste of white or brown sugar… especially if you use so much of the latter!
