Eddie Cantor to pseudonim artystyczny amerykańskiego komika i piosenkarza, którego prawdziwe nazwisko brzmiało Edward Israel Iskowitz. Żył on w latach 1892-1964. Krąży o nim pewna anegdota. Otóż wybrał się na wystawę światową w Paryżu, a kiedy z niej powrócił, zaczął opowiadać znajomym i rodzinie, że „W Paryżu można jeździć nocą taksówkami za darmo.” Stwierdzenie to budziło, oczywiście, dość znaczne zdziwienie. Słuchacze pytali więc Cantora, jak to jest możliwe, ale jego odpowiedź zdumiewała ich jeszcze bardziej. Jakie wyjaśnienie otrzymywali?

Eddie Cantor is the artistic pseudonym of the American comedian and singer whose real name was Edward Israel Iskowitz. He lived in the years 1892-1964. There is an anecdote about him. So he went to the world exhibition in Paris, and when he returned from it, he began telling friends and family that „In Paris, you can take drives with taxis for free at night.” This statement, of course, aroused quite a bit of astonishment. So the audience asked Cantor how it was possible, but his answer amazed them even more. What explanation did they receive?

„Simply. You take a taxi, get off at the desired place and ask the chauffeur to help you find a thousand-franc banknote that you’ve just dropped in the car. The taxi driver immediately steps on the gas and disappears.”
