Boże Narodzenie uważane jest za czas radości i pojednania z bliskimi. Ale… czy na pewno zawsze tym są? Simeon Lee, nestor swojego rodu, wcale nie ma ochoty godzić się z rodziną. Zaprasza wszystkich jej członków do posiadłości, a gdy tylko się pojawiają – zaczyna robić im wymówki. Najwięcej do powiedzenia ma na temat swoich synów, których uważa za niegodnych rodu. Na dzień przed Wigilią zbiera wszystkich gości w jednym pokoju i udaje, że dzwoni do swojego prawnika, aby zmienić testament. To, oczywiście, bardzo się im nie podoba. A kiedy zauważają, że Simeon zaczyna faworyzować swoją wnuczkę, Pilar, atmosfera jeszcze bardziej się psuje. Nikt z nich właściwie nie zna tej dziewczyny. Wiadomo o niej tyle, że jest córką zmarłej córki Simeona i jej hiszpańskiego męża. Wcześniej nie pojawiała się na spotkaniach rodzinnych, a teraz nagle tu jest i owinęła sobie staruszka wokół palca!
Jednak krewniacy nie mają dużo czasu, aby obrażać się na dziadka i wnuczkę. Pan domu staje się ofiarą brutalnego mordu. Zostaje znaleziony w zamkniętym pokoju, z poderżniętym gardłem. Jego przeraźliwy krzyk i ogromna ilość krwi rozbryźnięta po pomieszczeniu długo jeszcze będą pojawiać się w snach wszystkich świadków zdarzenia… Kto mógł zrobić coś takiego? Jeden z urażonych gości? A może obcy? Niektórzy podejrzewają, że mogło to być samobójstwo – bo jakim cudem ktoś mógłby zabić staruszka, zamknąć drzwi i uciec tak, żeby nie zostawić śladów wyjścia z pokoju? Ale Herkules Poirot, poproszony o zajęcie się tą sprawą, skłania się ku tezie zabójstwa. Pozostaje tylko znaleźć złoczyńcę i jego motyw. A w trakcie tych poszukiwań detektyw dowiaduje się, że nie wszyscy obecni w domu Simeona są tymi, za których się podają… Czy uda mu się rozwiązać tajemnicę? Christmas is considered a time of joy and reconciliation with loved ones. But… is it really always that? Simeon Lee, the senior of his house, does not want to reconcile with his family. He invites all its members to the property, and as soon as they appear, he begins to make them excuses. He has the most to say about his sons, whom he considers unworthy of the family. The day before Christmas Eve, he gathers all the guests in one room and pretends to call his lawyer to change his will. Of course, they don’t like it very much. And when they notice that Simeon is starting to favour his granddaughter, Pilar, the atmosphere is deteriorating even more. None of them really knows this girl. The only thing known about her is that she is the daughter of the late daughter of Simeon and her Spanish husband. She hadn’t appeared at family gatherings before, and now she is suddenly here and wrapped the old man around her finger!
However, relatives do not have much time to be offended by the grandfather and granddaughter. The master of the house is the victim of a brutal murder. He is found in a locked room, his throat slit. His terrifying scream and a huge amount of blood chilled around the room will long appear in the dreams of all witnesses of the incident… Who could do such a thing? One of the offended guests? Or maybe a stranger? Some suspect that it could be suicide – because how could someone kill the old man, close the door and run away in such a way not to leave traces of leaving the room? But Hercule Poirot, when asked to deal with this case, is inclined to the murder thesis. It remains only to find the villain and his motive. And during this search, the detective finds out that not everyone present in Simeon’s house is the one they claim to be… Will he solve the mystery? To find out, read „Hercule Poirot’s Christmas”.
