The blood begins to flow faster through your veins. You’re terrified of what is going on… Suddenly you feel that in your body there is something you do not know: something like a wave of energy that is gaining power with each moment. At some point, this „something” – the energy, the power, whatever it is – is released abruptly, throwing you and your attacker to the sides and destroying the room where you are at the same time. What happened? You do not know. YOU do not know, because the person in whose home you are understands this perfectly: you have a natural magical talent, which has just revealed. The power which you did not have to „explore” with another magician, but that was already in you; it just had to reveal itself. That’s how  the story of Tessia, the daughter of a Healer from the country of Kyralia, began. Having come to the magician, Lord Dakon, to treat a slave of his guest, she is attacked by this very guest… and so begins her new path. Dakon teaches her how to use this new, powerful force in such a way that it does not slip out of her control. On this occasion, Tessia gets to know the second Apprentice, Jayan – the boy with the longer experience of training, who, however, does not have a natural talent, but only a predisposition to learn to use magic. He is extremely unpleasant, but… interesting. At the same time the girl does not want to give up His dream of becoming a Healer.

At the same time, in the neighboring state – Sachaka – Steria comes to visit her father. She has not been here for a long time… Since after the breakup of her parents her mother took her to the country from which she came: Elyne. But now she is to live here with her father and she is happy about it. She hopes to be able to help him in the business. But it turns out that a parent has different plans in relation to her, which her mother also knew about, but apparently did not want to tell her. The man wants to find Steria a husband – one of the wealthy citizens of the city where they both live. At the beginning, the girl resists, but in the end decides to surrender to the will of her father; in the end, there is no other choice anyway. She begins to notice, however, that she can do something that will give her life purpose: help women who are mistreated by their husbands. Stories of the wives of her husband’s friends give her a feeling of horror…

While Tessia learns to control and use her power, and Steria is preparing for her wedding, the Sachakan and Kyralian magicians prepare for war. Kyralia is weaker; has already been conquered by Sachaka once, but then managed to escape. The magicians living there must, therefore, do everything not to let the enemy take control over their homeland. In Sachaka, however, the Ichani (a traitor, an outcast of the society) Takado – the same one that attacked Tessie – creates his small private army. He intends to help the emperor in attaching the areas that already were once subordinate to him to the land… and at the same time hopes that after the war he will no longer be an outcast.

Will Tessia and Steria cope in the new environment? Will the young Kyralian girl learn to control her power… and maybe use it to heal people? Will the Sachakan girl fulfill her dream of creating a settlement in which the women will rule? How will the war between the two countries end? That you will learn from the book „The Magician’s Apprentice” by Trudi Canavan, published in Poland by Galeria Książki.
